Technical Support Engineer/ Technical Service Engineer

Overview

The overall responsibility of the person holding this position is to provide Technical Support to trained NEC Infrontia Distributors and Resellers engineers. In addition NEC Infrontia provides maintenance and support to an increasing number of end users, as part of the Technical Services activity. The person holding this position will be expected to fulfill both responsibilities.

These responsibilities require customer issues and technical problems to be identified and resolved efficiently. Technical Support / Technical Services engineers are expected to work independently but where necessary refer to colleagues for advice and consultation.

Customer issues are often complex and specific to a particular customer therefore the ability to gather and interpret information from multiple sources is essential.

NEC offers a number of applications which complement the NEC telephone systems. The position requires the applicant to have a thorough understanding of the current Microsoft Windows environment (Server and Client operating systems).

Experience of NEC SMB and/or Enterprise level telephone systems and associated applications is considered essential.

The position is both office and field based, and a company car will be provided in order for the on-site responsibilities to be fulfilled.

3rd Line Technical Support Responsibilities;-

 Provide advice to the 3rd Line Technical Support to Distributors and Resellers Engineers. Including provided telephone technical support and where necessary take direct control of the problem via remote access.

Understand and resolve complex issues independently and as part of a team

Involved in detailed discussions with customers and NEC trained engineers regarding a customer’s problem. A thorough understanding of the problem is required and clear actions must be identified often resulting in further investigation, including consultation with 4th Line engineers

Obtain and analyse diagnostic information taken from the customer’s site and make evidence based suggestions as to how the problem could be resolved.

Liaise with the relevant development engineers in Japan to discuss problems

Where necessary visit customers in the UK or overseas to gather information for further analysis

Installation & Support Responsibilities (Technical Services) ;-

The Technical Services activity requires both on site deployments and office based support via telephone and remote access to customer’s telephone system and PCs running the various NEC customer applications.

Project planning and management

On site system deployments

Provide advice end users regarding their particular installation, this includes

Moves and changes to their system configuration

Resolving user issues and advise on the use and set up of their system

Visit customer if necessary to resolve issues and support in installations

Terms and conditions of employment ;-

Working hours:Â 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Friday with 1 hours lunch break

Holidays:Â 25 days taken between 1st April and 31st March

Company car: A company car will be provided

Salary: Flexible dependent on relevant experience

The position is a permanent position and attracts the normal NEC Infrontia employment conditions.
